Churches within the PC (U.S.A.) employ a representative goverment. Elders and sometimes deacons are elected from the congregation to serve a three year term (and may serve two terms consecutively before taking a required sabbatical year). The "active" elders and the pastor together make up the session, which is the governing body of each local church. Presbyterians believe that serving the church in this capacity is a high calling, and both the Minister and the Elders are ordained. Once one is ordained, the ordination is for a lifetime.
Sherwood's Session consists of six members:
Hazel Davis, Class of 2010
Joy Cannady, Class of 2010
Glennis Griner, Class of 2010
Grisson Bain (Clerk), Class of 2011
Ken Robinson, Class of 2011
Judy Maroney, Class of 2012
